SARASOTA JEWISH THEATRE LEADERSHIP

ARTISTIC LEADERSHIP

Carole Kleinberg, Artistic Director

Sarasota Jewish Theater’s Artistic Director, Carole Kleinberg has enjoyed a long career as a professional in many facets of the theater, including director, educator, acting coach, and administrator. She is recognized for the Jewish-themed plays that she has directed, including I Never Saw Another Butterfly, Beau Jest, Jest A Second, Crossing Delancey, The World of Sholom Aleichem, Fiddler on the Roof, and her award-winning production of The Diary of Anne Frank.

Previously, Carole was the Artistic Director of the Banyan Theater Company, and served as Education and Outreach Director for Asolo Repertory Theatre.   Before moving to Sarasota, she was a Professor of Theater at Oakton Community College on Chicago’s North Shore, and lead mainstage director.

Following the March on Charlottesville, Carole and a few theatre friends, including Carolyn Michel and Howard Millman, decided that there was a need for a positive Jewish voice in the arts in this community.    That was the beginning of Sarasota Jewish Theatre. The four year trajectory for SJT has been astonishing. Clearly it was the right idea at the right time.
